Enjoy an experience 'off the beaten track' in rural New Zealand.
The café is 500 metres from the Hanging Rock Bridge over the Opihi River. The area has plenty of places for you to explore and find your own little piece of paradise.
The Opihi River offers trout and salmon fishing, shady nooks and swimming holes. The district is home to the rare long-tailed bat, native to New Zealand, and you may be lucky enough to see these 'little fellas' at dusk, swooping against the last light of day.
More adventurous visitors can tackle a rock climbing area upstream from the bridge, with access through the adjoining farm. If you are self sufficient, we can help you find a place nearby to camp over night.
For an unusual and moving experience, take a stroll across our farm to search for ancient Maori rock drawings, which include images of the famous Taniwha. Please ask first at the café for directions and information regarding this precious and sacred site.
A short drive from the café will take you to the Richard Pearse Memorial which commemorates our local hero's pioneering flights in heavier-than-air machines. You can continue from here to Pleasant Point, a beautiful rural town with a vintage steam train and a good golf course.
