About Clifton Cottage

Clifton Cottage, home of the Opihi Vineyard Café, was built in 1882 by Edward Dark, the first runholder of Glentanner Station near Aoraki Mount Cook. Constructed from local limestone, with walls eighteen inches thick and with an original cellar, this historic cottage is an icon in the region. It was restored in 1999, and with the addition of a three metre wide conservatory now provides an ideal venue for a vineyard café. The grounds boast a children’s play area and spacious lawns for cricket and soccer.

Menu

The menu reflects their chef’s passion for simply delicious food, specifically selected to accompany Opihi’s award-winning estate wines. The secret of the wonderful flavours lies in the freshness and quality of the ingredients.

Prices start from under $10 for specialty breads and spreads or delicious soups. The menu changes regularly but always includes the famous Opihi Vineyard platter, as well as New Zealand fish and lamb, a vegetarian option and a hearty steak dish for the very hungry. Round off the meal with a decadent dessert and good coffee. The café has the entire range of Opihi Vineyard wines.
